Standing Strong

by Juanita Cyrenne

Below is a submission to the Hero Song Project, a campaign where musical artists who will pick from writings submitted by alienated parents and children to compose the music and perform the songs to bring public awareness of parental alienation.

If i say

take my hand

and you growl , twist , scream

I’ll wait

in my strength

keep showing you

this biggest heart

If you know me

as bitch

I’ll stand up

to the real abuser

It’s not shame I walk in

Knowing who I am

I’ll always breathe

Live

Be here

spirit whispers

over and over

you will win

This

Is no poker game

yet I keep a straight face

when not smiling

a lion’s roar

contained

never laying down to die

I’ll keep reaching

Researching

Compiling

Watching

Loving you

Centered

ready to step into a life I deserve

for my skin holds this body tightly

No part of me ever letting go

a thorny path travelled to arrive

In a place

of value

The jagged, distorted mirror of a past

stayed in too long

replaced

Caring for myself

deeply

for you

my child

we will be the victors
