Request Your City for A Proclamation to Recognize Parental Alienation Awareness Day

Hello empowered parents,

Many of you have asked how you can help bring awareness to parental alienation. A suggestion by Claudia Ovalles, an alienated mother, and an advocate, is that you can request your city for a proclamation to recognize International Parental Alienation Awareness Day.

Here’s how you can do that:

Step 1. Go to your city’s official website and locate the information for the Mayor. For example, for Los Angeles, that would be this page: https://www.lamayor.org

Step 2. Look for the contact information for the mayor’s office. For example, for Los Angeles, the contact information is at the bottom left of the page, which is mayor.helpdesk@lacity.org.

Step 3. Use the contact information you found in Step 2 and write to the mayor’s office. Sometimes, the mayor or city website provides a contact form instead of an email. In that case, you can still copy and paste the letter in the form.

Below is a suggested template for a letter to the City of Los Angeles. Please change the city name and the mayor’s name to your own city.

Subject: Proclamation to recognize Parental Alienation Awareness Day

Hello, I am an adult child/mother/father affected by parental alienation. Parental alienation is a form of child abuse and domestic violence. April 25th is the Parental Alienation Awareness Day and April is the Child Abuse Awareness month. As a survivor/victim and on behalf of many victims, may I please ask the Mayor for a proclamation to recognize Parental Alienation Awareness Day in our city?  Thank you very much for your leadership.

Here’s the proposed wording for the proclamation:

Proclamation

Whereas the Victim To Hero Institute and its community will observe the 17th annual International Parental Alienation Awareness Day and host their virtual and in-person #ChildrenFirst events on and around April 25th, 2022; and

Whereas behaviors such as speaking negatively about a parent to, or in front of, a child can destroy the bond between a loving parent and child; and

Whereas parental alienation deprives children of the right to love and be loved by their whole family, resulting in a psychological impact on children, and as such, it is considered a form of child abuse; and

Whereas the Victim To Hero Institute is an organization that provides education and resources to a worldwide community of parents and children who are affected by parental alienation, promotes public awareness, and champions social and system changes; and

Whereas #ChildrenFirst is a series of events where parents and extended family members are empowered to celebrate their love for their children and post videos and photos on various social media platforms.

Therefore, I, (INSERT MAYOR’S NAME), Mayor of The City of (INSERT CITY NAME), in recognition thereof, do hereby proclaim April 25th to be “International Parental Alienation Awareness Day”

In (CITY NAME), California.

Signed

When you do get a response about the certificate, please ask them if they would consider formally giving you the certificate in person at one of the city meetings or events. Because of COVID, many cities may not hold in-person meetings/events, but if they do, they usually can arrange for this formal recognition. When you do go to the event, please be prepared to give a short speech. You can look at the language above to use for your speech and if you are nervous, you can just read it as is. Please feel free to contact us by Facebook message if you need help through this process. Thank you.
