I love Rome and used to marvel at the architectural grandeur of the Colosseum. When you look at something so magnificent, it is easy to forget that it was an arena where the underprivileged were let to horrific deaths to entertain the rich and privileged. If anything, it is a monument for how power was used to disregard the basic human right to life.
Today, whenever I look at a government agency, it is always housed in some grand structure. I have talked to so many alienated parents and children to know that their pain and sufferings are not resolved, despite the involvement of a complex set of government agencies within the modern infrastructure of our society. It makes me wonder if we have evolved much from the Ancient eras. Are these victims voiceless because the system corrupted? Are children being sacrificed for the few privileged to become even more powerful? Or is that the system is blind, uninformed, and just needs more information? What changes can we do here and now so we don’t lose more generations to broken family dynamics?
